The SIG calls on the United Nations to stop the policy of collective punishment practiced by the legitimate government against the southern people.
The SIG condemned the policy of collective punishment practiced by the Yemeni legitimate government against the southern people by issuing decisions to stop services and cut salaries. For example, local sources reported today that the electricity system has completely departed in all directorates of the capital, Aden, due to the lack of fuel and the cessation of generating power stations. Because oil derivatives are not allowed to be brought into Aden, which is practiced by parties within the Yemeni government in retaliatory effort to subjugate citizens to a political project that the southern people do not want in the capital Aden and the rest of the southern governorates.
The SIG called on the United Nations and international organizations to assume the humanitarian responsibility towards the people of southern Yemen, and to put pressure on the legitimate government to stop the policy of collective punishment practiced by some of its parties or to go towards reconsidering the legal legitimacy of that government and granting legal legitimacy through the United Nations to the southern people. In line with international law, which states that the policy of collective punishment is prohibited according to Article 33 of the Fourth Geneva Conventions.

أدانت المجموعة الجنوبية المستقلة سياسة العقاب الجماعي التي تمارسها الحكومة الشرعية اليمنية بحق الشعب الجنوبي وذلك من خلال إصدار قرارات بإيقاف الخدمات وقطع الرواتب فعلى سبيل المثال أفادت مصادر محلية اليوم عن خروج كلي لمنطومة الكهرباء في جميع مديريات العاصمة عدن أثر نفاذ الوقود وتوقف توليد محطات الطاقة بسبب عدم السماح بإدخال المشتقات النفطية من قبل أطراف داخل الحكومة اليمنية إلى عدن بشكل انتقامي وذلك في مسعى ومحاولة لإخضاع المواطنين لمشروع سياسي لا يريده الشعب الجنوبي في العاصمة عدن وبقية محافظات الجنوب.
ودعت المجموعة الجنوبية المستقلة الأمم المتحدة والمنظمات الدولية لتحمل المسئولية الإنسانية تجاه شعب جنوب اليمن، والضغط على الحكومة الشرعية لوقف سياسة العقاب الجماعي التي تمارسها بعض الأطراف فيها، أو الذهاب باتجاه إعادة النظر فى الشرعية القانونية لتلك الحكومة ومنح الشرعية القانونية عبر الأمم المتحدة للشعب الجنوبي، وذلك تماشياً مع القانون الدولي والذي ينص على أن سياسة العقاب الجماعي محظورة حسب المادة 33 من اتفاقيات جنيف الرابعة.
